US President Donald Trump warned on Monday (November 3) that if Democratic candidate Zoharan Mamdani wins the New York City mayor’s election, he will block federal funds for the city. Trump described Mamdani as a communist and said that under his leadership New York would head towards economic disaster.
Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, “If Communist candidate Zoharan Mamdani wins the mayoral election, I will greatly limit federal funding. This city will have no chance of success or survival.” He said that he did not want to invest good money in bad and under Mamdani’s leadership New York would be plunged into a complete social and economic crisis. Trump said that his responsibility is to take care of the entire country and he does not want to witness the destruction of the city under any circumstances.

Trump also said that he would prefer to see a successful Democrat instead of Mamdani and for this he suggested the name of former Governor Andrew Cuomo. “Whether you like Cuomo or not, you don’t have a choice. You have to vote for him and hope he does a great job,” he said.
Taunt on Republican candidate Curtis Sliva
Taking a dig at Republican candidate Curtis Sliva, Trump said that voting for Sliva was like voting for Mamdani and jokingly added that Sliva looks better without a beret. This statement of Trump has come at a time when New York’s mayor election has become a topic of debate at the national level. The contest is exposing deeply divided opinions over city policies, policing, and federal aid.
