Mumbai Police has taken major action so far this year against Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in the city. Between January and November, the police have registered FIRs in 401 such cases and deported 1,001 people out of the country. Officials said that this action is being taken as part of the ongoing special campaign.
Action taken after visa violation
According to officials, those detained were either overstaying their visas in India or living in the city without any valid documents. The police first collected evidence against them, confirmed the visa violation and then started action.
Sent from Pune to the border through Air Force
Police said that most of the detained people were first taken to Pune. From here, they were taken to the Bangladesh border by special planes of the Indian Air Force, where the Border Security Force handed them over to Bangladeshi security personnel. Officials say that this process was done completely as per legal procedure.
Big revelation of making fake documents
A shocking thing came to light that many Bangladeshi citizens had made fake Aadhaar cards, ration cards and other identity cards while living in India. Police have recovered many fake documents from their possession. Besides, it has also started finding out how all these documents were made.
Officials said that such activities are still being monitored in many areas of the city. Mumbai Police, Special Branch and central agencies are working together to identify such suspicious people. Police say that strict action will continue against those living illegally in future also.
