The first match of India vs South Africa 2 test match series was played in Kolkata. In this match, South Africa defeated Team India by 30 runs. Since the match was over in just two and a half days, the Eden Gardens pitch and curator were heavily criticized. Many cricket experts and veteran players criticized the pitch, but Gautam Gambhir surprised everyone and supported the pitch.
Gautam Gambhir hugged the pitch curator
India vs South Africa second test is to be played in Guwahati from 22nd November. But before that, Team India held an optional practice session in Kolkata on 18 November. During this practice session, when coach Gautam Gambhir came to the field, he was seen hugging pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee.
Earlier, Gautam Gambhir had come in defense of the Kolkata pitch and curator Mukherjee and said, “We wanted a similar pitch. I think the curator showed a lot of support, we wanted similar pitch conditions, but when we don’t play well, such results come.”
Apart from this, Gambhir also said that no matter what the pitch was, the target of 124 runs could have been chased. Gambhir had blamed the defeat of Team India on the batsmen. He said that batsmen could score runs by batting with good defense and patience.
On the other hand, veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has given a statement in support of Gautam Gambhir regarding the pitch. Gavaskar said that there was not much fault in the pitch and the target of 124 runs could have been achieved. While chasing this target, Team India was bundled out for 93 runs.
