Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad has made a big claim regarding the security of Europe. The agency says that Hamas, the terrorist organization active in Gaza, has set up a secret operational structure in many countries of Europe. This structure is working like an intelligence unit and its activities have increased significantly in the last few months. Mossad also said that many plans have already been foiled in collaboration with European agencies.
Security agencies of Germany and Austria arrested many suspects during the joint operation. Investigation teams found a large stock of weapons at a location in Vienna, which included pistols, explosive materials and many items of military use. Investigation revealed that all this material was kept ready for an immediate attack and its wires directly reach Mohammad Naeem, associated with Hamas.
Mohammad Naeem, an influential name associated with Hamas leadership
Mossad’s investigation revealed that the seized weapons were related to Mohammad Naeem. He is the son of Bassem Naim, who played an important role in Hamas’s senior political bureau. Bassem Naeem is considered very close to Khalil al-Haya, a senior leader of Hamas in Gaza. Mossad says that this entire network was working under the direct supervision of Hamas leaders sitting abroad.
Mossad alleges Qatar connection
The Israeli intelligence agency has claimed that the top leaders of Hamas present in Qatar have supported these operations going on in Europe. Mossad, citing a meeting held in Qatar in September, said that the meeting between Mohammad Naeem and his father indicated that this was not just an individual initiative, but a step with the official approval of the organization. Although Hamas has publicly denied these ties, several intelligence reports have linked Qatar to this activity.
Operation is also being conducted from Turkey
According to Mossad, a part of this network active in Europe is also connected to Türkiye. In November, a man named Burhan al-Khatib was arrested in Germany, who was accused of carrying out Hamas-related activities in Turkey for a long time. Turkey has been considered an important base for Hamas for the last several years and European agencies are constantly keeping an eye on the networks connected there.
Keep an eye on funding too
The security agencies of Europe have now also intensified action against those organizations which are suspected of providing financial support to Hamas or spreading radical ideas. Charity organizations, various foundations and religious institutions now have to go through a rigorous vetting process. Monitoring and investigation of funding channels has been started at many places.
Hamas increased activity abroad – Mossad
Mossad has said that after the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, Hamas rapidly expanded the scope of its activities abroad. According to the agency, the organization has paid special attention to collecting weapons, preparing logistics support, increasing recruitment of people and creating secret cells. Mossad alleges that Hamas is now creating an international underground network on the lines of Iran’s strategy.
