Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (26 November) appealed to the citizens to follow their constitutional duties and said that this is the foundation of a strong democracy. In a letter to citizens on Constitution Day, PM Modi also stressed on the responsibility of strengthening democracy by exercising the right to vote. He suggested that we celebrate Constitution Day by honoring those who vote for the first time after completing 18 years of age.
PM Modi recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s belief that rights are acquired by the discharge of duties. He emphasized that discharge of duties is also the basis of social and economic progress. He said that the policies and decisions taken today will shape the lives of the coming generations and appealed to the citizens to keep their duties paramount as India moves towards the vision of a developed India.
