At the age of 19, Lahiri debuted as a music director and also got success. He got his first break from the Bengali film ‘Daadu’ released in 1972, but he started his career as a music composer in Hindi cinema with the film ‘Nanha Shikari’ released in 1973. He gave his music in many films, but he became popular with Tahir Hussain’s Hindi film ‘Jakhmi’. He not only composed music for the film, but also lent his voice for the first time as a playback singer. In the film, the singer lent his voice to the song ‘Jakhmi Dilon Ka Badla Chukne’. This film was a hit in theaters and Bappi Da’s career also took off after this film.
