Many people assume that the mediclaim of the old company will continue for a few days even after the notice period. But this does not happen. The policy rules clearly say that as soon as the job ends, your insurance cover also stops. That means as soon as you resign and receive the active status, the active status changes and the policy leaves you.

Many companies deposit the last month’s premium themselves. Therefore some people think that the coverage will last till the end of the month. But the system links coverage to job status. Not by date. This means that as soon as HR updates your exit date. Your cover may stop from that very minute.

Now the question arises whether grace period is available. There is no grace period in most group health policies. It does not work like a personal policy where the term can be extended by paying the premium. The rules here are very strict. Job is over, coverage is over. After this, hospital claim cannot be made from the old card.

If you have resigned but are still in the notice period, the company considers you an active employee. Till this time your mediclaim remains active. You can claim against accident, illness or any kind of hospital expenses. As soon as the last working day is over. Your card will be removed from the system.

Some companies give employees the option to migrate. That means you can issue the same policy further as a private policy. In this you have to pay the premium yourself. If you get this opportunity, it can be a good option till you get the next job.

But to convert the mediclaim of the old company into a personal one, you have to apply at least 30 days before the end of the notice period. Only then can this happen. Normally, after leaving the job, the mediclaim of the old company cannot be used at all. not a day, not an hour
