Indian Institute of Technology i.e. IIT Roorkee has issued new eligibility rules for JEE Advanced 2026. The institute has given this information through official notice. The new rules have been issued in total 5 points and it has been made mandatory for every candidate to follow them.
According to the issued notice, to appear in JEE Advanced 2026, first of all the candidate will have to make it among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in JEE Main 2026 (BE/B.Tech paper). The percentage of seats for reserve category will remain fixed as before and PwD candidates will get 5% reservation in each category.
Age limit rules have also been issued. General category candidates should be born on or after October 1, 2001, while SC, ST and PwD candidates will be given a relaxation of 5 years. Thus, for reserved category, the date of birth must be on or after October 1, 1996.
The rules regarding examination attempts have also been clarified. Candidates will be able to appear for JEE Advanced only twice and that too in two consecutive years. This means that the opportunity is limited and preparations have to be completed within the stipulated time.
Change in this rule also
A major change has also been made in the rules related to 12th examination. Only that candidate will be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026 who has appeared for the 12th board exam for the first time in 2025 or 2026. Candidates who have given 12th in 2024 or before will not be eligible for this examination. However, if any board has released the result of 2023–24 on or after June 18, 2024, then the candidates who appeared for the exam in 2024 will be considered eligible. In case the result is withheld by the Board, the candidate will not be considered eligible.
Clear rules have also been issued for the candidates who have already taken admission in IIT. If any candidate was earlier allotted a seat in IIT, took admission, reported or got the seat canceled later, then such candidate will not be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026. However, candidates taking admission in preparatory course in 2025 and those candidates who got IIT seat in JoSAA 2025 but have not reported will be able to appear for the examination.
