There have been reports regarding murder, rape and other incidents in Bangladesh, which have made frightening revelations. According to the report, 276 incidents of violence took place till November, in which an average of 14 people lost their lives every month. Election buzz has intensified in Bangladesh. Dhaka’s Human Rights Support Society on Tuesday (December 9, 2025) released a report on incidents of violence and rape in Bangladesh, in which it was told that till November this year, 276 incidents of mob violence have occurred in Bangladesh. At least 156 people were killed and 242 were injured in these incidents. This means that there were an average of about 14 deaths every month.
The report also said that at least 1,909 women and girls in the country were subjected to sexual violence. Out of the cases of sexual violence, there are 789 cases of rape. The surprising thing is that more than half of the victims are minors. HRSS’s ‘Human Rights Observation Report 2025’ assessed the situation of law and order and human rights between January and November this year.
According to Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star, news published in 15 national newspapers and the organization’s own data have been used to prepare this report. The report said that since the interim government of Mohammad Yunus came to power in August 2024, the human rights and law and order situation has not improved and still remains worrying.
According to the report, an increase in political violence, lynching, sexual violence against women, vandalism at religious places and attacks on journalists has been revealed in Bangladesh. At the same time, at least 31 people lost their lives due to confrontation with the police or torture in custody. 80 other prisoners died in jails across the country. There were 852 incidents of political violence, of which 474 were due to internal conflicts within the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its affiliates. 80 people have lost their lives in these fights. Apart from this, 4,577 people were injured.
On the other hand, two people lost their lives and 503 others were injured in 55 other clashes between BNP and Jamaat. A case of attack on journalists has also come to light in the report. There were 293 cases of attacks on journalists in Bangladesh, in which two were killed, 256 were injured, 47 were harassed, 74 were threatened and 14 were arrested.
According to reports, in early March, a female journalist was gang-raped while reporting in Dhaka. Additionally, 31 cases were registered against 105 journalists, including five under the country’s Cyber Security Act 2023, in which one was arrested. Additionally, at least 24 attacks on minority communities were recorded. Of these, 15 people were injured and five temples, 37 statues and 38 houses were destroyed in Bangladesh. More than 50 religious places were similarly attacked, vandalized or looted.
