When the name of hard work and fitness is mentioned in Indian cricket, the first image that comes to mind is Virat Kohli. In his international career spanning almost 17 years, Kohli has taken his game, fitness and mental strength to a different level. Despite retiring from Test and T20 formats, Kohli still trains with the same passion as a new player trying to make his place in the team.
However, in the eyes of India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, the most hardworking player of the team is someone else. He has described Shubman Gill as the most hardworking player in the team.
Jaiswal took Gill’s name
In an interview, when Yashasvi was asked who is the most hardworking player of the Indian team, he took the name of Shubman Gill without any delay. Yashasvi said, “Shubhman Gill. I have seen him very closely. He works very hard on his fitness, diet, skills, training, everything. His consistency and discipline is amazing. Watching him and playing with him is always an experience.”
Jaiswal further said that Gill’s batting performance during the England Test series was very excellent and responsible. “We were confident that he would score runs for the team in every situation.” , he said.
Out of T20, but successful in form
Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently out of the T20 team for a year, but he has performed brilliantly in ODIs recently. After the World Cup, in the decisive ODI against South Africa, he scored an unbeaten 116 runs to give India an easy 9 wicket victory. After scores of 18 and 22 in the first two matches, this century has come as a big relief for him. This innings showed that he knows how to use the opportunity properly.
Gill’s hard work, Jaiswal’s inspiration
Virat Kohli’s working style has been a benchmark for Indian cricketers. However, Yashasvi believes that Gill’s hard work, preparation and skill set make him the most dedicated player of the team at present.
