There is a dispute going on between China and the Philippines over the islands and maritime areas of the South China Sea. A clash was once again seen between the two countries on Saturday (December 13, 2025). In fact, Philippines officials claimed that China Coast Guard ships took action against Philippines fishing boats in a disputed area of the South China Sea. After this, there was a clash between the two parties in the sea, in which three fishermen from the Philippines were injured.
Philippine officials said the incident occurred near Sabina Shoal, a fish-rich area about 150 kilometers (93 miles) off Palawan island. On the other hand, Beijing said on Friday (December 12, 2025) that it has taken necessary control measures against about 20 Philippines fishing boats in the area.
China has been claiming the disputed waterway
China completely claims this disputed waterway. At the same time, the Philippines claims this area under international law and its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). In such a situation, due to recent military cooperation, the tension between the two countries has increased further.
However, China has a history of making such claims everywhere. The area over which this dispute is taking place between China and the Philippines is rich in natural gas and oil. Confrontations between the navies of China and the Philippines are often seen in the Scarborough Shoal.
China is adopting aggressive stance regarding South China Sea
On one hand, China is adopting an aggressive stance regarding the South China Sea, while on the other hand, the Philippines is also giving a befitting reply. In such a situation, countries like America, Japan and Australia are supporting China. At the same time, it has also been said in international decisions that China’s claim has no legal basis.
In October, the Philippines had alleged that a Chinese ship had deliberately hit its government ship in the Spratly Islands. However, China completely rejected this allegation and blamed Manila for the incident.
