A sensational audio clip of Masood Azhar, the leader of Pakistan’s terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed, is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In this audio, Masood Azhar himself is confessing for the first time that in the 1990s, he and his fellow prisoners were trying to escape from Jammu’s high security Kot Bhalwal jail by digging a tunnel.
Got tools and dug a tunnel in the jail
In the audio, Azhar tells in an emotional and scared tone that he got tools inside the jail and worked hard for several weeks to dig a tunnel. The tunnel was almost completed and the day of escape was fixed, but on that very day the jail authorities got wind of it. The plan failed completely and everyone was captured.
tied in chains after being caught
After being caught, Azhar and his associates were treated very badly. Azhar said that he and his companions were beaten so badly that the entire body was drenched in blood and swollen like a loaf of bread. As punishment, food was stopped, they were not allowed to go to the bathroom and they were kept tied with chains. The strictness in the jail was increased to such an extent that everyday life became very difficult.
mental stress of being caught
Referring to one officer, Azhar described him as ‘very strict’ and ‘cruel’. During interrogation he was tied with chains and continuously abused. The officer repeatedly asked about the tools and where they came from. Azhar said that the fear and mental shock of this incident is still with him. He cried while narrating these old memories and said that the fear of the jail officials still haunts him. During this, Azhar prayed for strength and survival.
Azhar had entered India using Portuguese passport
Masood Azhar was born on 10 July 1968 in Bahawalpur, Pakistan. Studied in a madrasa in Karachi and fought against Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Later joined Harkat-ul-Ansar organization. In February 1994, he came to India on a fake Portuguese passport and tried to spread jihad and recruit terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. Was arrested in Anantnag and remained in jail from 1994 to 1999. First he stayed in Srinagar, then in Delhi’s Tihar and finally in Jammu’s Kot Bhalwal jail.
Got out of jail in exchange for flight hijacking.
After the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 in December 1999, the Indian government released him in exchange for the release of the passengers. After being released, he formed the Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist organization, which was responsible for the Parliament attack (2001), Pulwama attack and many other major terrorist incidents. He is India’s most wanted terrorist and the United Nations has declared him a global terrorist.
After this audio clip surfaced, Indian security agencies are investigating its authenticity.
