35-year-old all-rounder Ben Stokes surprised everyone by retiring from international cricket during England’s third Test against New Zealand. Now he will return to domestic ODI cricket on the same day when the new season of ‘The Hundred’ is starting. Ben Stokes could not play the second Test against New Zealand due to the investigation into an incident that took place in a London nightclub. While away from the England team, Stokes played for Durham against Northamptonshire in the County Championship.

According to ‘BBC Sport’, Stokes said, “When I was not playing in the second Test and came back to Durham, I felt a new energy towards the game, but unfortunately I could not get that feeling again. I am very excited about what I am going to do in the future. I am going back to play for my childhood club Durham. I am very excited right now. There were some moments this week which were really very difficult. I have taken the right decision. “

Ben Stokes did not give his name in the players auction. Along with this, even before announcing his retirement from England responsibilities, he had agreed to play for Durham in the One Day Cup. Stokes has not played 50 overs cricket since England’s ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. Tuesday’s match in Derbyshire will also be Stokes’ first home ODI for Durham in 12 years.

His last 50-over match for Durham was the 2014 ODI Cup final against Warwickshire, which his team won. He played his last domestic ODI match in New Zealand in 2017, representing Canterbury.
