Under-19 Asia Cup: Sri Lanka in semi-finals after defeating Afghanistan in a close match, read updates of the match

Sri Lanka won against Afghanistan by 2 wickets in the seventh match of Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup 2025. With this, Sri Lanka has confirmed its place in the semi-finals.

The Sri Lankan team has won both the initial matches of this tournament. Along with them in Group B, Bangladesh team has also qualified for the next round, whereas Afghanistan and Nepal team could not qualify for the next round.

In Group A, the Indian team has made it to the semi-final match, while Pakistan and UAE have a chance to get the final ticket.

In this match played on Monday at the ICC Academy Ground, the Afghan team, after winning the toss and coming to bat, was reduced to 235 runs in 49.5 overs. This team suffered a big blow in the form of Khalid Ahmedzai (6) for just 9 runs.

From here Faisal took over the team by making a partnership of 75 runs for the second wicket with Osman Shadat. Faisal was out after scoring 39 runs.

After this, Uzairullah Niazi and captain Mehboob Khan added 25-25 runs to the team’s account, while Nuristani Omarzai contributed 29 runs. Azizullah Miakhil returned to the pavilion after scoring 31 runs.

From the opposition team, Sethmika Seneviratne and Dulanith Sigera took 3-3 wickets, while Rasith Nimsara and Chamika Heenathigala took 2-2 wickets.

In response, Sri Lanka registered victory in 49.2 overs. The opening pair gave a great start to the team. Samantha Mahavithan and Viran Chamuditha made a partnership of 55 runs in 9.3 overs for the first wicket.

Viran was out after scoring 62 runs in 83 balls with 2 sixes and 3 fours. After this, Chamika Heenathigala played an unbeaten inning of 51 runs in 57 balls and gave the team a thrilling victory.

For Afghanistan, Nuristani Omarzai took 3 wickets, while Wahidullah Zadran, Salam Khan Ahmedzai, Ruhullah Arab and Uzairullah Niazai took 1 wicket each.
