A 21-year-old youth died on the spot in a crude bomb blast in Moghabazar area on Christmas evening. Crude bomb thrown from flyover
According to the police, at around 7:10 pm on Wednesday evening, unidentified miscreants hurled a powerful crude bomb on the road below Mogabazar flyover. The bomb hit the head of a young man walking on the road, due to which he died on the spot. After the blast, panic spread in the entire area.

The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Saiful Siam. He used to work in an automobile accessories shop in Moghabazar area. Police said that Siam had gone out to buy breakfast from a nearby shop when the attack took place. Tea shop owner Farooq, who was present at the spot, said, ‘Suddenly there was a huge explosion. I saw that Siam had fallen on the ground. Blood was flowing from his head and the circumstances were very frightening.

Explosion in sensitive area
The blast took place in New Eskaton area of ​​Hatirjheel police station area, where the Assembly of God (AG) Church and Bangladesh Mukti Yoddha Sansad Central Command office is located. The explosion in this sensitive area has further increased the concern of security agencies.

Security concerns increased before Tariq Rehman’s return
This incident has happened at a time when political activity is intense regarding the return of BNP leader Tariq Rehman to Dhaka. He is the son of former President Ziaur Rehman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and has been in exile for the last 15 years. Before the upcoming elections, security arrangements had already been tightened in the capital regarding his return.

Police investigation continues, area sealed
Ramna Division Deputy Police Commissioner Masood Alam said that it was a cocktail bomb. He said that senior police officers are present at the spot and investigation is going on to identify the attackers. After the blast, the entire area has been sealed and additional forces have been deployed to maintain law and order.
