Christmas 2025: Today is 25th December 2025, Christmas day, this special day is celebrated all over the world. But did you know that the Christmas story was not exactly as we have been told.
The main part of the story of Christmas is related to the story of the birth of Jesus. Nativity scenes shown in public places, on television, and in schools include elements such as the guiding star, the three wise men, and stable animals. However, the question arises, how historically accurate are these pictures?
According to Bible experts, the famous Christmas story has been grossly misinterpreted from the actual words written in Christianity’s holy book. Some of them are-
Was Jesus born on 25th December?
Nowhere in the Bible is the date of Jesus’ birth mentioned, not even the month. In fact, Biblical historians believe that he was likely born in the spring or autumn.
Especially because shepherds were out in the fields tending their sheep at night (Luke 2:8), which they would not do during the winter months.

Why is Christmas celebrated only on 25th December?
Previously, it was celebrated on December 25 (likely the winter solstice), the day of the sun god, Mithras. For this reason, according to The Gospel Coalition website, some historians believe that the Christian Church chose this date to compete with that particular non-Christian festival.
Most believe that the early Christians would have reasoned from the supposed date of their conception, which was believed to be March 25, the day of Jesus’ death.
According to Jewish Talmudic traditions, all virtuous women died on the day they conceived.

Pregnant Mary rides a donkey to Bethlehem
The Christmas story usually begins with the pregnant Mary riding on a donkey while Joseph accompanied her for miles. But despite this being a famous scene in the story, there is no mention of this particular thing in the Bible.
Would they have really ridden a donkey? This may happen because the method of transportation has not been clearly explained. The passage simply states that the couple traveled from Nazareth to Bethlehem (Luke 2:4, 5), but some Bible historians believe that, given Mary’s condition and the length of the journey, she may have traveled in some form of carriage.
Sarah’s people did not give a place to stay
Joseph and Mary, who were about to give birth to a child, are rudely driven away by the innkeeper and show no mercy to them. However, the inn incident is not mentioned anywhere in the Bible.
Greek translation error
Recent research by Stephen Carlson, a PhD in New Testament, shows that the Greek word commonly translated as ‘inn’ (καταλύματι) in Luke 2:7 is correctly translated as ‘dwelling place’.
