Before the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, defending champion Mumbai Indians has taken a big decision. The team has further strengthened its coaching staff and included former Australian leg spinner Kristen Beams in the team as spin bowling coach. Mumbai Indians announced this on social media and made it clear that the team is fully prepared to win the third trophy.
New experience added to coaching staff
Mumbai Indians is already known for its strong coaching setup. The addition of Kristen Beams to head coach Lisa Keightley, bowling coach and mentor Jhulan Goswami, batting coach Devika Palshikar and fielding coach Nicole Bolton will give the team more edge in the spin department.
Expressing her excitement about working with the franchise, Beams said, ‘I have joined the team here as a coach for the first time. This is a great opportunity to work with great players like Jhulan Goswami. He further said, ‘The atmosphere of Mumbai Indians is like a family. I am happy that I am joining a team which knows how to win. Joining such a team is a special experience for any coach.
Cricket career has been wonderful
Kristen Beams’ international career has also been quite impressive. He took 42 wickets in 30 ODI matches for Australia, while he has 20 wickets in his name in 18 T20 matches. Apart from this, she has also played a test match. In the Women’s Big Bash League, she took 37 wickets in 45 matches and proved herself as a reliable spinner.
Strong hold in coaching also
Beams is not only a player but also an experienced coach. She has coached in the Women’s Big Bash League and has also played the role of head coach of Australia women’s under-19 team. Apart from this, she has handled important development related responsibilities in Cricket Australia and Cricket Tasmania. Now she will share this experience with the young and experienced spinners of Mumbai Indians.
Eyeing the third trophy
Mumbai Indians has won the WPL trophy twice so far and is eyeing its third title in the 2026 season. Players like captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Matthews and Amanjot Kaur have already been retained. The addition of Kristen Beams in the presence of match-winners like Amelia Kerr and Shabnim Ismail makes MI a strong contender for the title once again.
