Telangana Police has achieved great success against Maoist insurgency. Barse Deva, alias ‘Sukka’, a top commander of the Maoist party and the most wanted Naxalite of Chandrapul-east area, has been caught by the police. This news has created a stir in Naxal affected areas. A total reward of Rs 50 lakh was announced by the administration on Barse Deva and his surrender is being seen as a major victory for the internal security forces.
According to information received from sources, Barse Deva has surrendered before Telangana Police and is currently in police custody. What makes this operation an even bigger success is that along with Barse Deva, 15 other Maoists have also laid down their arms. This group was active in Dandakaranya area and had been a headache for the security forces for the last several years.
Barse Deva’s profile is quite dangerous
Barse Deva’s profile has been quite dangerous. He has been a close associate of the country’s most dangerous Naxalite leader Madvi Hidma. Hidma, who is considered the mastermind of Maoist activities in Bastar region. Along with Hidma, Barse has carried out many major operations. Interestingly, the relationship between the two leaders was not limited to the organization only, rather both are residents of the former village of Sukma district of Chhattisgarh and come from the same village. This deep cultural and regional connection made him stronger in the organization.
Big blow to Maoist organization
This surrender is being considered a major blow to the Maoist organization, especially on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border. Police officials say that surrender of such a big leader along with 15 other cadres will psychologically weaken the organization. At present, the police is interrogating Barse Deva so that important information can be obtained about Hidma and other top leaders. With this action, a strong step has been taken towards establishing peace in Dandakaranya area.
