A shot was fired late in the evening of Monday (January 5, 2026) near the Miraflores Palace, the presidential palace located in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. Because of this an atmosphere of chaos was created. According to AFP reports, security forces opened fire after suspicious activities. Although government officials have claimed that the situation is now under control, a tense atmosphere remains in the capital.
According to AFP news agency, unidentified drones were seen flying over Miraflores Palace on Monday (January 5, 2025) evening. Immediately after this, the security forces deployed to protect Rashtrapati Bhavan started firing in the air. Security agencies feared that drones could be used for any attack or surveillance, hence action was taken from security point of view.
Political crisis increased after Maduro’s arrest
The firing incident has happened at a time when the country is already going through a serious political crisis. Just hours before the firing, Vice President Delsey Rodriguez was sworn in as Venezuela’s interim president. At the same time, former President Nicolas Maduro, after being caught by America, was presented in a Federal Court in New York, where he is being heard on serious charges related to drug trafficking.
An atmosphere of panic in the capital Caracas
There is an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among the common people in Caracas after the news of firing around the Presidential Palace. Security has been increased in many areas and additional soldiers have been deployed at sensitive places. The government has appealed to the citizens to maintain peace and stay away from rumours.
White House statement
The White House has issued a statement on the firing that took place near Miraflores Palace, the Venezuelan presidential palace. He said that America had no involvement in the firing. A White House official told CNN that they are closely monitoring reports of shooting coming from Venezuela.
Administration claims – situation completely under control
The Venezuelan administration says that there was no direct attack on the Miraflores Palace. This action was taken only for security reasons. The identity of the drones and the intention behind them are being investigated. However, the opposition believes that after Maduro’s arrest, there is a possibility of further instability and power struggle in the country.
