‘She looked more beautiful than today’s heroines’, Neena Gupta said on never becoming a lead actress, said- ‘I was into wrong things…’

Neena Gupta has had a long and illustrious career, in which she worked in so-called parallel cinema in the 80s. Touched the heights of cable TV in the 90s and tasted success in commercial films in the 21st century. But the actress feels she could have done a lot more. In a recent interview, Neena regretted that during her golden period she never got a chance to play the role of a lead actress in commercial Hindi films.

Talking to Humans of Bombay, Neena while talking about her career said, “I often think that I could have done better work and could have been more beautiful in appearance as compared to many heroines of today. These ideas come, but what is the use of it?” When asked how she felt she handled things, the veteran actress added, “It was my fault because I always had no patience. I was looking for the wrong things. Most of the time, my confidence was low, and I think these factors hindered my growth. I realized that this industry is a business. Emotions have nothing to do with it. I didn’t understand the rules or the game.”

Neena Gupta’s film journey so far
Neena started her career in the early 1980s with films like Gandhi and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, after which she also did supporting roles in arthouse comedy films like Saath Saath. After playing lead roles in famous TV shows like Mirza Ghalib and Saans, her career took a new direction in 2018 with her sleeper hit Badhaai Ho.

Recently he was seen in Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri. Now she will be seen in Vadh 2, in which she is working again with Sanjay Mishra. This film is being released on 6 February.
