A few days ago, bullion traders in Jhansi, UP had taken a decision to ban people from coming to jewelery shops wearing burqa or hijab. Now its effect is being seen in Bihar also. The bullion traders here have also taken a decision and put up a notice outside the shop that it is prohibited to come to the shop wearing burqa, niqab, mask, helmet. After this decision, there has been political uproar in Bihar.
Bihar President of All India Jewelers and Goldsmiths Federation, Ashok Kumar Verma has held a meeting with all the district heads of the state. It has been decided that if any customer comes to the shop wearing a mask, helmet, burqa or hijab, he will have to remove it. It is being told that traders have taken this decision from security point of view. This information has been given to the Central SP of Patna over phone.
Ashok Kumar Verma said that the jewelery shop has mostly women as customers, hence keeping in mind their respect, they will be requested to remove it. District heads of other districts including Gopalganj, Chhapra, Dehri Onson, Arrah, Buxar, Bhagalpur, Gayaji, Sasaram, Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Patna, Nawada were present in the meeting.
Why was this decision taken?
Ashok Kumar Verma told that many such incidents have happened and due to his face being hidden, the police also faced problems. Due to this this decision has been taken. We respect women, but will make requests of them. There are also women salesmen in all the shops. If anyone rejects this request then the goods will not be sold. Currently, the price of gold and silver has increased a lot, hence this decision has been taken from the security point of view. For this, a letter has been sent to DGP, Chief Secretary and Home Ministry.
After this decision, most of the shopkeepers of Patna have put notices in front of their shops. Bakarganj area of Patna which is considered to be the market of gold traders, all the shopkeepers here have put up notices. If we believe those people then this decision is commendable.
‘Respect is as important as security is’
On this decision, Adil Hasan, national spokesperson of Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM, said, “I welcome the decision of the gold traders, but this is a matter related to the respect of Muslim women, so I would definitely tell them that if you have taken this decision, then keep only sales girls in the shops. Because as important as your safety is, the respect of women is also important.”
Take decisions thoughtfully: Anjum Ara
JDU spokesperson Anjum Ara said that if bullion traders have pasted such posters regarding burqa and hijab in front of their shops, then it will make women wearing burqa or hijab feel uncomfortable. This will affect the sales of bullion traders. Take any decision thoughtfully. Because the matter is related to religion and there is freedom to wear and eat in every religion.
