In this regard, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project has been launched, under which fifth generation stealth jets will be developed.
Big information has come to light regarding India’s most ambitious military aviation program AMCA. Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) chief Dr. Sameer V. Kamat has confirmed that the country’s indigenous fifth generation stealth fighter jet AMCA project is progressing as per schedule. He said that the first prototype of this state-of-the-art fighter aircraft will be rolled out by the end of 2028, while its first flight is planned to take place in early 2029.

During the Tejas-25 National Seminar held in Bengaluru, Dr. Kamat said that the event was organized by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) to commemorate 25 years of the first flight of the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas. After developing fighter jet, India will come in the category of America, Russia and China. Let us tell you that at present the American F-35 and Su-57 are on top among the fifth generation jets.
According to the DRDO chief, the AMCA program is no longer limited to just design and concept, but has entered the actual development phase. He said that this project is progressing under a strict and time bound plan as per the requirements of the Indian Air Force (IAF). The short gap between the prototype in 2028 and the first flight in 2029 shows that work is being done on many fronts on this project.
Lessons learned from Tejas project
DRDO’s confidence regarding AMCA is largely based on the experience gained from the Tejas programme. The Tejas project faced many technical and administrative challenges in its initial years, but the process helped India build a strong domestic defense industrial structure. Through Tejas, modern flight test infrastructure, team of skilled engineers and technicians and strong supply chain were developed in the country.

Looking towards the future, the outline to make India a strong and self-reliant military power by 2047 was also discussed in the Tejas-25 seminar. AMCA is being considered an important part of this vision. The statement of Dr. Sameer Kamat clearly shows that India is now moving forward rapidly in the field of advanced military aviation technology and AMCA can prove to be a historic milestone in this direction.
