The Consulate General of India, located in Shanghai city of China, celebrated World Hindi Day with great enthusiasm and pomp under the leadership of Consul General Prateek Mathur. Highlighting the dignity and grandeur of Hindi, the Chief Consul read out Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message to the nation, in which it was written that Hindi is not just a language, but a powerful link to convey India’s sentiments, values and thoughts to the world.
This message of PM Modi was shared among all the gathered friends of the Indian community. A large number of ambassadors of other countries were also present on this occasion. Students and teachers from the prestigious universities of East China, Fudan, SISU and ECNU, shared their creations and ideas with the entire audience on this special occasion, which made the platform more lively.
Children of Shanghai Theater Academy also participated
To bring alive the spirit of One India, Best India, a grand colorful cultural program was organized in which talented children of Shanghai Theater Academy also participated. Also, girl students who achieved excellent achievements in Bharatnatyam were honored in the meeting. Everyone proudly followed the national tricolor fluttering on the Somnath temple, shining our rich cultural heritage.

Veteran Sunita Mehta read her self-penned poem “Kartavya Ki Aakhri Parekh”, which was dedicated to her late husband Brigadier Ravi Dutt Mehta (Kirti Chakra awardee). The gathering became emotional after hearing the poem. Modern playwright Mohan Rakesh’s immortal play “Ashadh Ka Ek Din” was staged by Indians living in Shanghai and the Shanghai Theater Academy also presented its Chinese translation.
This is an important step in popularizing Indian literature in China. After felicitating all the patriotic participants, the Chief Consul addressed the gathering and explained in detail the importance of language, especially Hindi, our official language, in our daily life and on the global stage.
