India-UAE: A proposal to lay a 1600 km long power cable between India and the United Arab Emirates is being considered. It will cost Rs 40,000 crore. Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar gave this information during ‘India Energy Storage Week’. This mega project is an important part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘One Sun, One World One Grid’ (OSOWOG), which aims to increase cross-border power connectivity and strengthen clean energy sources (solar energy, wind energy) in the world.

1600 Km. long pipe laying

This power will be only about 1600 kilometers long and 2 gigawatts of electricity will be exchanged through it. This cable will be directly connected to the UAE coast from Gujarat (Bhuj) in India via the Arabian Sea. In this, high-voltage direct current cables will be laid at a depth of 3000-3500 meters below the sea. The responsibility of this project rests with the government-owned company Power Grid Corporation, which will complete it in about 5-6 years.

India’s emphasis on global connectivity

The Energy Minister says that India is working on this vision not only with UAE but also with many other countries in the region. The first name in this comes from Saudi Arabia, with whom India has signed a deal worth Rs 47000 crore for an undersea cable project. Apart from this, India plans to expand the power grid network to Sri Lanka, Singapore and Europe in the future so that like other things, electricity trade can also be done easily at the international level.

Through this project, India will be able to export surplus renewable energy to Gulf countries after meeting its needs. Due to this, electricity can be supplied smoothly even in different time zones, like if it is night time in India, then electricity can be taken from Gulf countries and India can send electricity to them during day time. This will strengthen business in both the countries, strengthen diplomatic relations and both will progress economically.
