JSW Motors Limited is preparing to launch its first SUV in India. For this, JSW has partnered with China’s SUV specialist company Jetour, which is a brand of Chery Automobile. Jetour is already known in the global market for its strong SUV range, which includes petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric models. In India, JSW will introduce the Jetour T2 SUV with a re-branded name.
Where will Jetour T2 SUV be made in India?
- The upcoming Jetour T2 SUV will be assembled at JSW’s new greenfield manufacturing plant located in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will also be manufactured in this plant in future. Although the company has not announced the official date of launch, but it is believed that this SUV can enter the Indian market in the third quarter of 2026, i.e. around Diwali.
SUV bigger in size than XUV 7XO
- The Jetour T2 will be a 5-seater SUV, but its dimensions make it quite large in the segment. Its length is 4,785 mm, making it longer than the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari and Hyundai Alcazar. Its width is 2,006 mm and height is 1,880 mm. The wheelbase of 2,800 mm and ground clearance of 220 mm make it capable even on bad roads.
Powerful performance with hybrid technology
- This SUV of JSW will be based on monocoque platform and will have a 1.5 liter plug-in hybrid engine. In the global market, this engine gives 156 horsepower and 220Nm torque. In China, the Jetour T2 comes in two hybrid variants, which include 2WD dual-motor and AWD tri-motor options. The tri-motor version generates 462PS of power and 700Nm of torque. Pure electric, hybrid and engine-only drive modes are available in it.
Feature-rich premium SUV
- The Jetour T2 SUV will have a large 15.6-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, Sony’s 12-speaker audio system, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate control and advanced safety features. All these features make it a strong contender in the premium SUV segment.
