Dry Iron Vs Steam Iron: Ironing clothes is a daily task. Some people get their clothes ironed outside. So most people do this work at home. But different types of iron available in the market confuse people. The most common question is that what is the real difference between dry iron and steam iron and which consumes more electricity. Visually both look almost alike.
But the method of working and the results differ to a great extent. Dry iron has been used in homes for years. Whereas steam iron has made ironing clothes easier and faster. If you are thinking of buying a new iron, then it is important to know which of these consumes more electricity.
How does a dry iron work?
Dry iron is the most basic type of iron. The only work it does is to remove wrinkles from clothes by the pressure of the hot plate. There is no system for adding water or generating steam. With the temperature control knob you set the heat according to cotton, silk or synthetic fabrics. Dry iron is light, heats up quickly and is generally cheaper.
This is completely sufficient for light clothes or everyday ironing. But clothes which have very deep wrinkles, like thick jeans, cotton sheets or curtains, have to be ironed many times. That means the work gets done, but it takes a little more effort.

How different is a steam iron?
Steam iron has a water tank. It heats up and forms steam, which softens the fibers of the cloth. For this reason, even deep wrinkles can be removed in one or two strokes. You can run it in dry mode as well as steam mode. It is considered more effective in ironing heavy clothes, school uniforms, jeans, curtains or suits. As far as electricity is concerned, steam iron is usually a little more powerful than dry iron because it also has a water heating system. Although it takes less time.

What consumes more electricity?
If we talk about power consumption between dry iron and steam iron, there is not much difference between the two. Talking about electricity consumption, steam iron consumes more units in 1 hour but it does the work quickly. In such a short time, dry iron power was useful but it will reduce the speed. That means there is not much difference between the two. It will work quickly by consuming more in less time. So the second one will work for longer time but the consumption will also be almost equal.
