Railway Guidelines: Indian Railways transports millions of passengers from one place to another every day. Book tickets, pack your luggage and start your journey. But there are many rules related to luggage in train travel. What can you carry, how much can you carry and how to pack? Railways have guidelines on all this. Often people keep clothes, food items or household items with them.
In this regard a question comes to the mind of many people. Is it right or wrong to carry ghee in the train? Many travelers carry ghee without knowing the rules and later get into trouble. Therefore, before travelling, it is important to know what the Railways says about carrying ghee. So that there is no problem on the way and your journey is completed comfortably.
What does the rule of carrying ghee in the train say?
Indian Railways has also made clear rules for goods like ghee. Passengers can carry ghee with them in the train, but there is a fixed limit. According to Railways, a passenger can carry a maximum of 20 kg of ghee. More quantity than this is possible only if prior permission is taken from the railway staff. It is important to keep ghee well sealed in a tin box or strong canister.
The packing should be such that it does not open or leak during transit. Open utensils, weak packing or plastic bottles which are prone to leakage are not considered safe. If the packing is not proper then the railway staff can take action up to removing or confiscating the goods. Therefore, not only the quantity but also the packing is equally important.
Why has the rule been made?
Ghee may seem like a simple thing but it can pose a risk in a closed environment like a train. If ghee leaks, the floor becomes slippery. Due to which the risk of passengers falling increases. Apart from this, ghee is inflammable. In such a situation, there can be a possibility of fire due to leakage. This is the reason why Railways has made strict rules regarding its quantity and packing.
What action can be taken?
If a passenger carries more than 20 kg of ghee without permission, action can be taken against him. If there is wrong packing, the goods can be confiscated and fine can also be imposed as per the prescribed rules. Therefore, it is wise to keep ghee or any such item with you by keeping these guidelines in mind before travelling, so that your journey remains safe and carefree.
