‘It’s too late for apology’, SC angry at the minister who gave statement on Colonel Sophia Qureshi, asked MP government – why is there no case against him…

The Supreme Court has expressed surprise at the attitude of Madhya Pradesh government in the matter of giving controversial statement regarding Colonel Sophia Qureshi. The SIT told the court that it had sought permission to prosecute Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah, but till now the government has not taken any decision on it. After Operation Sindoor, Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah had given a statement regarding Colonel Sophia Qureshi, for which an FIR was registered against her. Vijay Shah has filed a petition to cancel this FIR.

Sofia Qureshi had given a briefing to the media regarding Operation Sindoor. The Supreme Court expressed surprise that since August last year till now the state government has not taken a decision on the SIT’s application. The court has asked the government to take a decision soon. When Vijay Shah’s lawyer said that the petitioner had apologized, the court told him that his apology was not on record and now it was too late.

Chief Justice Surya Kant said that the SIT has sought approval from the government and the state government has not yet taken a decision on it. The state government argued that the SIT report was presented in the court and was being considered, hence the state government… CJI Surya Kant expressed displeasure on this and said, ‘You have not been able to take any decision on the SIT report since August 19, 2025 and now it is January 19.’ The CJI said that the SIT had submitted the report in a sealed cover and it was opened in the open court. The report revealed that the SIT has also investigated various aspects, but the old cases of the petitioner have not been included in it.

CJI Surya Kant said that after investigation, the SIT had sent the report to the state government to run a case against Vijay Shah, but it is still pending with the state government. CJI Surya Kant said, ‘We direct the Madhya Pradesh government to take appropriate steps for approval under the law.’ Intelligence Department DIG D. Kalyan Chakraborty was also present in the court. The court asked him to consider those aspects which have been mentioned in other petitions.

Senior advocate Manindan Singh, appearing for Vijay Shah, said that the petitioner has apologized and he is also cooperating in the investigation. CJI Surya Kant asked him, ‘Where is your apology… there is nothing on record and now it is too late.’ CJI Surya Kant said that he has seen his apology letter and has also commented on it.

The court said that we had told in your apology how to apologize. The court had rejected Vijay Shah’s public apology, calling it mere crocodile tears to avoid legal liability. The court later also expressed dissatisfaction with his online apology.
