India Australia Agreement: Many important agreements were signed between India and Australia in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Melbourne, Australia. Both countries agreed to strengthen defense and security cooperation and expand partnership in the fields of maritime security, cyber technology, supply chain, nuclear energy, space and trade. Both the leaders described dialogue and diplomacy as the most effective way to achieve common fight against terrorism, peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region and resolution of global tensions.
Defense and security cooperation gets new strength
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that the two countries have issued a joint declaration on defense and security cooperation, which will further strengthen the practical partnership. He said Australia views India as a top security partner and both countries are committed to a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
Both the countries agreed to increase strategic coordination, make defense exercises more complex and strengthen interoperability between the two armies. Besides, it was also decided to hold regular consultations on defense matters related to Indo-Pacific.
Consensus also reached on maritime security and cyber technology
India and Australia approved joint maritime security cooperation roadmap. Along with this, a new Australia-India partnership was also agreed to strengthen cyber security, critical technologies and supply chains.
India-Australia-Canada Trilateral Technical Partnership
During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) related to Technology and Innovation Partnership was also signed between Australia, India and Canada. Through this partnership, cooperation between the three countries will get a new direction in the field of emerging and important technologies.
Gaganyaan mission will get Australia’s support
Both countries also agreed to increase cooperation in the field of science and technology. A temporary space tracking terminal will be established on Australia’s Cocos (Keeling) Island, which will provide technical support to India’s ambitious Gaganyaan manned space mission.
Common Strategy on Energy Security and Supply Chain
Referring to the economic impacts of the ongoing conflicts in West Asia, the two leaders issued a joint statement on energy security. In this, special emphasis was given on strengthening the supply chain, promotion of clean energy, use of renewable energy resources and electrification of energy systems.
The way for uranium supply to India opened
During the meeting, arrangements to enable export of uranium to India for peaceful purposes under the India-Australia Nuclear Cooperation Agreement of 2015 were also signed. This agreement will open the way for uranium supply to India from Australia and will give new strength to the country in the field of clean energy.
Modi expressed gratitude to Albanese
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for the grand welcome he and the Indian delegation received in Melbourne. He said that Albanese’s personal efforts and commitment have brought new heights and breadth to India-Australia relations.
Trade and investment will get new expansion
Prime Minister Modi said that after the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) which came into force in the year 2022, trade and investment between the two countries has continuously increased. He said that now both the countries have decided to work expeditiously on the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA), which will be balanced, ambitious and beneficial for both the countries.
common resolve against terrorism
Prime Minister Modi said that India and Australia believe that terrorism is not the biggest challenge of any one country but of the entire humanity. He said that the fight between the two countries against terrorism is common, the resolve is unbreakable and cooperation is continuously getting stronger.
Solution will come only through dialogue and diplomacy
Prime Minister Modi said that resolution of the ongoing tensions and wars in many parts of the world is possible only through dialogue and diplomacy. He said that India and Australia together will further strengthen peace, stability, freedom of navigation and rules-based order in the entire Indo-Pacific region.
