A big update has come regarding Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections. The impact of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections is clearly visible in the election for the post of Chandigarh Mayor. Actually, this time there will be no alliance between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress (INC) in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Mayor elections. Both the parties had contested the last elections together.

The effect of this is that due to the absence of AAP-Congress alliance, BJP’s victory over Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor is almost certain because BJP has 18 councilors out of 35 while AAP has 11 and Congress has 6 councilors. Nominations for this will be filed today (Thursday, January 22).

AAP and Congress officials gave information

Actually, there was suspense for a long time on whether there would be an alliance between the two parties of India alliance or not? Aam Aadmi Party’s Chandigarh in-charge Jarnail Singh has answered these questions through his social media handle. Besides, Chandigarh Congress President Harmohinder Singh Lucky has also given this information.

BJP 18 councilors in Chandigarh

Now Aam Aadmi Party and Congress will field their candidates for all three posts. Let us tell you, there are a total of 35 councilors in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. In this, BJP has 18 councilors, Aam Aadmi Party has 11 councilors and Congress has 6 councilors. One vote is from Chandigarh MP who is Manish Tiwari of Congress.

Decision in view of Punjab Assembly elections

Political experts believe that both Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have decided not to form an alliance in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections because there are Punjab Assembly elections next year. If both the parties were together in the Municipal Corporation, then the parties in Punjab would not have had the answer to separate.

Pressure from Aam Aadmi Party and Punjab unit of Congress is also believed to be the reason behind the non-existence of this alliance. Despite not having the numbers, both the parties will field their candidates in this election.
