Men’s national team selector Luke Wright will step down from his post after the tournament. According to the report of Cricbuzz, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed this. Let us tell you that former cricketer Wright was appointed to this post in November, 2022. After holding this post for more than 3 years, he is now going to step down from it.
During Luke Wright’s three-year tenure, England’s performance in ICC tournaments has been disappointing. The team failed to make it to the finals of the World Test Championship in 2023 and 2025. England was out of the group stage of Cricket World Cup 2023 and Champions Trophy 2025. In the previous edition of the T20 World Cup (2024), England reached the semi-finals, where India defeated them. Team India won the title in this edition.

Wright wants to give more time to his family, which he could not do while holding this post. Cricbuzz quoted him as saying, “It has been a true honor and privilege for me to serve as the selector of the England men’s team for the last three years. This position involves a lot of traveling and being away from home. With a small family, I feel now is the right time to hand over this responsibility to someone else. Now, I am looking forward with great interest and excitement to what cricket-related roles await me in the future.”
England Cricket Board men’s team managing director Rob Key expressed his gratitude and described his contribution to England cricket as extraordinary. He said, “It has been a pleasure working with Luke. His contribution has been extraordinary and I respect his decision. He has contributed much more than just being a selector. I wish him and his family all the best for the future.”
