A surprising case has come to light from America. Federal agents have detained a 5-year-old boy returning home from a pre-school in Minnesota along with his father. Both were taken to a detention center in Texas. Columbia Heights Public School District Superintendent Zena Stanwick said that Liam Conejo Ramos is among the four minors taken into custody, which also include 17-year-old 2 and 10-year-old 1.
Mark Prokosh, the attorney for the Ramos family, said both the child and his father are living in the United States legally as refugee applicants. After Liam’s arrest, pictures going viral on social media show heavily armed federal officers arresting a 5-year-old boy and taking him away. The child is wearing a blue cap and carrying a Spider-Man bag.
What did the eyewitnesses say?
Witnesses told Reuters news agency that when the two returned home from preschool on Tuesday, Liam saw masked ICE agents taking his father away from the driveway of their home. He further said that the agents tried to lure the mother out of the house by using the child as bait.
What did the school president tell?
Columbia Heights School Board President Mary Granlund told reporters that Liam’s father told his wife to stay inside the house. So that they are not detained. He said that school officials, Ramos family members and all their neighbors offered to take the child with them, but ICE officers flatly refused.
Superintendent of Columbia Heights Public School District asked questions
Zena Stanwick, superintendent of the Columbia Heights Public School District, said that this is like baiting a 5-year-old child. He questioned the agents as to why a 5-year-old child was being detained. He also said that you cannot tell me that this child is a violent criminal.
