In this match, Jacob Bethel and Ben Duckett came to open the innings for England. During this time, Bethel was seen struggling a lot to open the account i.e. to score the first run. He scored his first run on the 13th ball. With this an unwanted record was registered in his name.
22-year-old Jacob Bethel has now become the second England opener to take the most number of balls to score the first run in ODI cricket. Sir Alastair Cook is at number one in this record list. Cook opened his account on the 18th ball while opening the innings in the ODI match against South Africa in 2012. Today against India, Bethel scored the first run on the 13th ball.
England’s record at Edgbaston is dangerous
England has won the last seven matches at Edgbaston Stadium. Here, last time the English team was defeated by Team India. In 2014, India had defeated England by 9 wickets on this ground, and since then the English team has never lost on this ground. This is the 200th match of England wicketkeeper batsman Jos Buttler.
