Congress had suffered a major setback after the results of Bihar Assembly elections (2025). Only six MLAs had won. The most surprising thing after the results was that discussion started in the political circles that these six MLAs could leave the party. This means there could be a split in Congress. Amidst all such claims, a meeting was held on Friday (January 23, 2026) at the residence of the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former President Rahul Gandhi discussed the status of the organization and future strategy with senior party leaders of Bihar. Meanwhile, the party has termed as completely baseless the speculations that all the six MLAs of the party in Bihar may join Janata Dal (U).

Congress organization general secretary KC Venugopal, state in-charge Krishna Allavaru, state Congress Committee president Rajesh Kumar Ram, all six MLAs and many other leaders attended the meeting held at Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence ’10 Rajaji Marg’. After the meeting, Venugopal said, “All our MLAs are with the party. Everyone participated in the meeting. These (speculations about him leaving the party) are nonsense. These rumors are being spread which are completely baseless.”
Important meeting towards change: Akhilesh Singh
Let us tell you that in the Bihar Assembly elections held in November last year (2025), Congress was reduced to only six seats while NDA got 202 seats. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh shared the picture of the meeting held on Friday with his X handle. He posted and wrote, “An important meeting was held today towards change in the politics of Bihar. Under the leadership of Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge ji and Leader of Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi ji, a detailed discussion was held with other leaders of Bihar on the issues of organizational strength and public interest.”

Bihar Congress state president Rajesh Ram has written to his ex, “I got the opportunity to attend an important meeting of the Bihar Congress family with Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge ji and Leader of Opposition Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi ji. In this meeting, Congress General Secretary (Organization) Shri KC Venugopal ji and other senior leaders of the party were present with dignity.”
