Winter storm has jammed the entire America. Due to this, thousands of flights in America had to be cancelled. On Saturday (January 24), the storm wreaked havoc in most parts of the country, causing power outages and blocking roads due to severe snow.
More than 40 percent of America’s population, or about 140 million people, is under winter storm warning from New Mexico to New England. The National Weather Service is predicting heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain from Saturday through Monday from the southern Rocky Mountains to New England. National Weather Service meteorologist Alison Santorelli said that the snow will melt very slowly and will not go away so quickly, which will greatly hinder relief efforts.
Donald Trump declared emergency
President Donald Trump had approved the declaration of emergency for 1 dozen states as of Saturday and is expected to declare it for more states in the future. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the Federal Emergency Management Agency has deployed essential supplies, personnel and search and rescue teams to several states. Noem said that we just appeal that everyone should show understanding and stay at home if possible.
According to poweroutage.us, about 120,000 power outages were reported due to the winter storm on Saturday. Which includes about 50,000-50,000 power cuts in Texas and Louisiana. In Shelby County, Texas, near the Louisiana border, the weight of the snow snapped pine trees, causing downed power lines. About a third of the county’s 16,000 residents were without power.
Nearly 13,000 flights canceled in America
Nearly 13,000 flights were canceled across the US on Saturday and Sunday, according to flight tracking website FlightAware. All flights Saturday and Sunday morning were canceled at Will Rogers International Airport in Oklahoma City.
