The West Indies team has suffered a setback before the start of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Star all-rounder Chinley Henry got injured in the warm-up match against Australia on Wednesday. She fell badly while trying to stop the ball at the boundary. She was taken out of the field on a stretcher, during which she was crying.
On Wednesday, a warm-up match was held between West Indies women and Australia women’s team at Sophia Gardens Stadium. Batting first, West Indies scored 131 runs. While fielding, Chinle Henry ran to stop the ball going to the boundary, she slipped. She could not control herself and fell on her right shoulder. After this the medical team reached the ground. Henry was unable to walk, after which he was taken out with the help of a stretcher. During this time she was crying.
Talking about the match, Australia women’s cricket team easily won this warm-up match by 6 wickets. Australia achieved the target of 132 in 15 overs. Chasing the target, Georgia Voll and Beth Mooney made a partnership of 48 runs for the first wicket, Mooney scored 34 runs in 18 balls. Georgia scored unbeaten 77 runs in 48 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 10 fours.

West Indies’ first match in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is with New Zealand on Saturday, June 13. An official update on Chinley Henry’s injury is yet to come, but it can be assumed that it will take time for him to recover. In such a situation, this is a big blow for West Indies.

On Wednesday itself, the Indian women’s team also had a warm-up match, in which England won by 5 runs. England batted first and scored 171 runs. India’s top order batsmen flopped, but due to Richa Ghosh’s inning of 68 runs in 36 balls, Team India remained in the match till the last minute. India’s first match in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is with Pakistan on June 14.
