Why will banks remain closed on January 27?
The reason for bank closure on January 27 is not related to any government holiday. Rather, there is going to be a holiday in banks due to the strike of bank employees. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has not declared any holiday on this day. But due to the proposed strike of bank unions, branches may remain closed at many places. Due to this, common people may face problems in bank related work.
In fact, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced a nationwide strike on 27 January 2026. This organization represents employees of public sector banks and some old private banks. For this reason, banking services are likely to be affected in many cities and districts on Tuesday.
What is the reason for the strike?
The reason behind the strike of bank employees are their demands regarding their working arrangements. The unions say that they should get a chance to work only 5 days a week and should be given leave on both Saturday and Sunday.
According to the proposal, bank employees agree to work 40 minutes more every day from Monday to Friday and in return they get all Saturdays off. At present, bank employees work sometimes 5 and sometimes 6 days a week. They get Sunday weekly off. Also, there is a holiday in banks on second and fourth Saturday.
