India-US Trade Deal: 500 billion dollar deal confirmed? Good news is going to come from America after EU

After signing the Mother of All Deals with the European Union, India’s focus has shifted to America. According to sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, it is expected that the long pending India-US trade deal may be approved soon. He has said that ‘very significant’ progress has been made in the talks regarding the proposed trade agreement between India and America and both sides are close to finalizing it.

On Wednesday (January 28, 2026), sources said that India had continued talks with the US even while taking the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union to the final stage. Sources said the India-EU FTA should not be seen as an alternative to the current status of trade relations with the US, as the US market is equally important for Indian exporters.

According to ANI report, he said that ‘very significant’ progress has been made in the talks on the proposed trade agreement with the US and both sides are hoping for a positive outcome. A source said, ‘Efforts are going on in this direction. We hope that the talks will yield positive results. He says that now only technical work is left, only formalities are left to be completed.

This news has come at a time when India is hopeful that it may get some relief regarding tariffs. India and America had held several rounds of talks last year regarding Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), but it came to a halt after the implementation of tariffs. US President Donald Trump had imposed 50 percent tariff on Indian goods in August. This also includes a 25 percent penalty for buying Russian oil. Tension was also seen in relations between the two countries on immigration and other issues.

After the conclusion of FTA between India and EU, it is believed that this is a step taken in response to America’s tariff policy. However, sources rejected this and said that this agreement has been made on the basis of mutual interest and benefits of both the parties. Sources said that India wants to increase exports to both America and Europe, so that employment can increase and manufacturing can also be promoted.

India’s Commerce Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal had earlier said that the first phase of BTA would be announced soon. However, he did not give any date or time regarding this. The objective of BTA is to take the trade between India and America from $ 191 billion to $ 500 billion by 2030.
