Sports Budget 2026: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget for 2026-27 in Parliament on 1 February. The Central Government has indicated that efforts will be made to strengthen the entire sports system in India. The Finance Minister announced an infrastructure and grassroots sports development schemes. He also said that India has the potential to become a global hub of high-quality sporting goods. He talked about promoting the manufacturing of sports goods/equipments. Youth affairs and sports have received about Rs 45,482 crore for 2026-27.
Khelo India Mission
During the budget speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed Khelo India Mission. The objective of ‘Khelo India Mission’ will be to transform and improve the Indian sports ecosystem in the next 10 years. He said that now India’s focus will not be limited only to winning medals, but sports have become a means of employment, skill development and economic growth.
The Finance Minister said that the objective of this new project will be to develop the talent of athletes in an integrated manner. A clear process of skill development will be prepared, so that players playing at all levels can get the right resources and get the right direction. Modern training centers will be prepared for the fitness of the players. Apart from this, the government has also laid emphasis on the development of coaches and support staff. Under Khelo India Mission, emphasis will also be laid on bringing sports science and modern technologies in sports.

After the launch of Khelo India Mission, sports goods will become cheaper to some extent in India. An amount of Rs 10 thousand crore has been allotted to SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) in the budget. It is estimated that from now on cricket bats and balls, sports kits, badminton rackets, football etc. can become as cheap as sports.
To understand clearly, after the sports budget for the 2026-27 season, a lot of emphasis will be laid on sports development in India in the next 10 years. Manufacturing of sports goods will be promoted in India, along with improving the fitness and talent of athletes, special emphasis will also be given to coaches and support staff.
