One question still remains regarding Rohit Sharma – will Rohit play in the 2027 ODI World Cup? No concrete answer to this question has come from BCCI management, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir. But former Team India player Sanjay Manjrekar gave a big statement and said that some other player should be given place in place of Hitman.
Rohit is available for India only in ODI format. He has retired from Test and T20 International. The direct meaning of Hitman’s continuation of ODI cricket is to play the next World Cup. On many occasions, Rohit has expressed his desire to play in the World Cup. But doubt remains over his selection in the tournament. On this, Manjrekar talked about Hitman.
What did Sanjay Manjrekar say?
Manjrekar also talked about the centuries of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Sanjay Manjrekar was quoted by the Indian Express as saying, “He has 2 centuries in his last 3 ODIs. It is a bit difficult for Yashasvi Jaiswal. On this matter, all I would say is that if the selectors have selected Rohit in this ODI squad, then I hope it is a long-term decision, in which they are expecting Rohit to be a part of the 2027 World Cup. This should be the only reason for his inclusion.”
He further said, “Because we do not want to assess Rohit’s performance in the next 18 or 19 ODI matches before the start of the World Cup. I just hope that the selectors will have long-term plans for Rohit. Otherwise, he should be replaced by some other player.”
Rohit Sharma played Afghanistan ODI series
Recently, a three-match ODI series was played between India and Afghanistan, in which Rohit Sharma was seen playing. Hitman played innings of 16, 48 and 79 runs in three matches of the series. He was the fourth batsman to score the most runs in the series.
