Samajwadi Party chief and Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav has alleged misuse of Form-7 during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has demanded that an FIR be registered against those who he claims are applying for deletion of voters’ names illegally.
In statements issued on February 1 and February 2, the Kannauj MP alleged that Form-7 applications were being submitted with fake signatures to remove the names of PDA and minority voters. He called the issue a big fraud, demanded judicial cognizance and asked voters to verify their names in the voter list. He also appealed to party workers and local representatives to take legal action in suspicious cases. Akhilesh said that no person involved in wrongful deletion of names should be spared.
During the discussion in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi got the support of Akhilesh Yadav on this issue, there was a lot of uproar.

Amid these allegations, day-wise data of Form-7 submission between January 6 and January 31, 2026 shows how name deletion and objection applications increased throughout the month. No forms were filed on 6, 7, and 8 January. It started with 175 applications on January 9, while there was no additional increase on January 10. A sudden increase was recorded on January 11 with 2,236 new applications. After this, forms were submitted on January 12 (677), January 13 (734), January 14 (736), January 15 (889), and January 16 (906).
This pace increased further in the second half of the month. On January 17, 1,970 new applications were filed, followed by 3,865 applications on January 18. The highest daily figures since January 19 were: January 19 (2,674), January 20 (2,670), January 21 (2,848), January 22 (2,787), January 23 (2,318), January 24 (2,861), January 25 (2,797), and January 26 (2,947). Further increases were seen in the last days – January 27 (3,317), January 28 (3,424), January 29 (3,551), January 30 (4,288), and January 31 (8,503), which were the highest increases in a single day. A total of 57,173 Form-7 applications had been submitted till January 31.
What is Form 7?
Form 7 is an application form provided by the Election Commission of India which is used to object to the deletion of someone’s name from the voter list or to the inclusion of someone’s name in the voter list. It is filled when it is felt that a voter’s name should not be in the list. This may happen if the voter is dead, has permanently moved to another place, is enrolled twice, or is ineligible to be registered as a voter for some other reason. A voter can also use Form 7 to remove his name from the list.
