US President Donald Trump praised New Delhi’s India Gate on Monday (February 2). Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote with a picture of the 1921 war memorial that India’s beautiful Vijay Arch, ours will be the greatest.
Trump’s post came a day after he said he wanted a Victory Arch in Washington DC and it should be the largest of its kind. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, he argued that the absence of such an arch in the US capital was an exception.

What did Donald Trump say?
The US President said that there are 57 cities around the world which have this. Washington DC is the only Maine city that does not have it. I want it to be the biggest. We are the largest and most powerful nation. There is currently no Victory Arch in Washington, while many major cities have built such to mark wars or national achievements.
Trump had previously indicated that the arch would be part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations on July 4, 2026. According to a Bloomberg report, the proposed memorial will be a permanent structure. In December, Trump told Politico that he hoped construction could begin within two months.
Where will Vijay Arch be built in Washington DC?
In the last few months, Trump has shown several designs of the proposed arch in the Oval Office. During a dinner with donors raising funds to build a $200 million banquet hall at the White House, he showed off miniature models of the structure. Holding the model in his hand, Trump said that no matter small, medium or big, all look good. I think the biggest one is the best. The design is inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and is expected to be built across the Potomac River in front of the Lincoln Memorial.
