- IIT Kanpur started Bachelor Cyber Security course from 2026.

There is big news for students who want to make a career in the field of cyber security. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has started a new undergraduate course named Bachelor of Cyber Security (B Cyber) from the academic session 2026-27. This four-year degree course will start from July 2026 and will be conducted under the Wadhwani School of Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems of the institute.
The most important thing is that admission to this course will not be through JEE Advanced. Instead, candidates will be selected on the basis of JEE Main score and their prior experience or work in the cyber security field. The institute said that after the initial shortlisting, the candidates will have to participate in a special assessment to be conducted at the IIT Kanpur campus.
This evaluation process will also include a Hackathon, through which the candidates’ technical understanding, problem solving ability and practical skills related to cyber security will be assessed. This will help the institute to select students who have genuine interest and capability in cyber security.
This four-year program has been designed keeping in mind a balance of academic education and practical training. In the first two years of the course, students will stay at the IIT Kanpur campus and study various aspects of cyber security. During this, they will be given in-depth information about classroom based education, laboratory training and technical subjects related to cyber security.

Which subjects will be studied?
Topics related to cyber attack detection, network security, ethical hacking, digital forensics, data security and other modern cyber technologies will be included in the program. Students will also be provided with practical experience in a controlled and safe environment so that they can prepare for real challenges.
The last two years will be completely devoted to practical training. During this period, students will get the opportunity to do internship with various government security organizations and agencies. During the internship, students will work on real cyber security projects and national level digital security challenges.
What did the director say?
IIT Kanpur Director Professor Manindra Aggarwal said that in today’s digital era, the importance of cyber security is continuously increasing. The need for trained cyber experts is greater than ever to protect the country’s digital infrastructure, government networks and critical institutions. Keeping this need in mind, this new program is being started.
