The cricket ball hit Stokes’ face so hard that his right eye swelled badly and his nose started bleeding. Stokes himself has shared the picture of his injury on the social media platform Instagram, in which the injury on his face can be clearly seen.
How did this tragic accident happen?
This painful accident happened with Ben Stokes when he was not batting. According to reports, Stokes was standing on the field with his friends when suddenly a ball came from his blind side and hit him straight on the right side of his face. However, despite being in pain, Stokes jokingly wrote on Instagram, ‘You should see the condition of the cricket ball that I hit.’
Out of T20 World Cup and waiting to return to the team
Test captain Ben Stokes is not currently part of England’s plans for the white ball format and he will not participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Stokes was already recovering from an injury suffered during the Ashes series and now this new accident has added to his problems. It is expected that Stokes will return to the field during the home Test series against New Zealand to be held in June and will take command of the red-ball team.
Questions raised on captaincy after defeat in Ashes
Stokes’ captaincy and his statements are being criticized after England’s 4-1 defeat to Australia in the Ashes series 2025-26. Great England fast bowler James Anderson raised questions on Stokes’ statement in which he praised the hard work of the players despite the defeat in the Ashes. Anderson said that it is the players’ job to run and put in efforts all day long for their team, there should be no praise in it.
