However, this time in the hurry to make news, the ignoring of facts is clearly visible. It was claimed on a major Pakistani TV channel that fearing the boycott of the India-Pak match, senior ICC and BCCI officials are holding an “emergency meeting” in Mumbai. However, the reality turned out to be completely opposite.
What was the claim of Pakistan media?
During a discussion on Pakistani channel ARY News, journalist Numan Niaz claimed that ICC Chairman Jay Shah and ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta are present in Mumbai. According to him, if the India-Pakistan match is not held, the broadcasters and ICC may suffer huge financial losses, hence the meeting has been called hastily. It was even said that if the match did not take place, there could be a loss of 20 to 40 million dollars.
ICC rules were also cited in this discussion and an attempt was made to show that Pakistan is in a strong position and ICC will not take any strict action against it.
After all, what is the truth?
These claims of Pakistani media were soon exposed. Actually, Jay Shah and Sanjog Gupta are not in India at present, but in Milan city of Italy. There he is participating in meetings related to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Cricket Germany itself has confirmed this by sharing pictures on social media. In these meetings, discussions were held regarding the development of cricket in countries like Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Jersey. That means the “emergency meeting” that was being talked about has nothing to do with the India-Pak match dispute.
Trying to apply pressure?
Cricket experts believe that by spreading such news, Pakistan media wants to show that ICC and BCCI are under pressure. In fact, the India-Pakistan match is definitely the biggest earning match of ICC tournaments, but it does not mean that the rules will be kept aside. ICC rules clearly state that the teams participating in the tournament have to follow the prescribed conditions. If a team deliberately withdraws from the match, financial fine or other action may be taken against it.
