On one hand, due to lack of funds in Rajasthan, government schools are in a dilapidated condition and are not being repaired. On the other hand, the government is buying new Fortuner cars worth about Rs 55 lakh for its ministers. Congress has raised questions on this. The government’s argument is that ministers face problems during tours and there is a fear of four year old vehicles getting damaged. For this reason, the decision to buy an expensive luxury Fortuner car is not at all wrong. However, the main opposition party Congress is not only raising questions on the purchase of Fortuner for ministers, but is also calling it unnecessary.
Many ministers travel in their personal Fortuner
These days, the number of ministers in Rajasthan, including Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and both the Deputy CMs, is twenty-four. Most of the ministers including the Chief Minister are currently riding Innova. Some ministers also travel in their personal Fortuner.
Recently, the government had decided that along with all the ministers, people holding some other important posts will now be given a ride in the new luxury Fortuner car. A proposal for this was prepared and sent to the Chief Minister’s office.
Chief Minister’s office gives approval to ministers for Fortuner
In the first phase, the Chief Minister’s Office approved the purchase of Fortuner vehicles for all the ministers. The budget for this was also approved. The budget approved purchase of the luxury model of Fortuner for ministers is priced at Rs 54 lakh per vehicle.
Meanwhile, it was decided that a total of 41 luxury Fortuners were to be purchased. In the first phase, approval has been given for purchase of vehicles only for 24 ministers. Ten Fortuners have already reached the government. The government wants that these Fortuner vehicles should be given to the ministers only after the winter and budget sessions of the Assembly are over, so that political chaos can be avoided.
Congress state president targeted
In this regard, State President of Congress Party Govind Singh Dotasara has fiercely targeted the government. He has said that on one hand the buildings of government schools are falling down. Children are dying. The cooks preparing mid-day meals have not been able to get honorarium for the last 7 months.
He said that in such a situation, the decision of ministers to buy luxury Fortuner is like making fun of the system. According to him, new vehicles for the ministers were purchased only 4 years ago. In such a situation, there was no need to buy new vehicles.
The ministers have taken this decision for their comfort. It is more important for ministers to make safe arrangements for children’s education and get their school buildings repaired than buying a luxury Fortuner.
Cabinet minister hits back at Congress’s allegations
Cabinet Minister Kanhaiya Lal Chaudhary has also retaliated by terming Congress’s allegations as wrong. According to him, it was very important to buy new vehicles. Ministers are facing difficulty in touring in old vehicles. The existing vehicles are almost 4 years old. In such a situation, the journey can get spoiled at any time.
He said that the objection of the opposition is completely wrong. The new Fortuner is not a hobby but a necessity. If ministers reach out to the public quickly, their work will also be done easily. It is noteworthy that during the hearing held in the High Court just four days ago, the Education Department of Rajasthan had told that Rs 20,000 crore is required to repair the buildings of government schools in the state. It was also told that the government is short of funds and help is being sought from capitalists and institutions.
