Earlier this record was in the name of Chris Gayle, who had completed his half-century in 23 balls against Australia in the 2009 World Cup. Hetmyer completed his fifty by playing one ball less than him. After Gayle, the name of Shay Hope comes in this list, who completed his half-century in 24 balls in the 2024 World Cup.

The record of scoring the fastest half-century in T20 World Cup history has been in the name of Yuvraj Singh for the last 19 years. He completed fifty in 12 balls in the match against England in the 2007 World Cup. That match is remembered for Yuvraj’s 6 sixes.
