1. Lukla Airport, Nepal

Nepal’s Lukla Airport is considered to be the most dangerous airport in the world. It is also called Tanging-Hillary Airport. It is situated at an altitude of about 2,860 meters above sea level. The runway here is only 527 meters long. On one side there are high rocks and on the other side there is a deep ditch. To land here the plane has to be brought straight down. In 2025, 15 people have died in two accidents here. Only very experienced pilots are allowed to land here.

2. Paro Airport, Bhutan

Paro Airport of Bhutan is surrounded by mountains. It is at an altitude of 2,200 meters and is surrounded by 5,500 meter high mountains. The auto system does not work here, so the pilot has to control the plane himself. About 50 pilots in the world are allowed to land here.

3. Courchevel Airport, France

Courchevel Airport in France is near a ski resort. Its runway is only 537 meters long and very steep. There is no night landing facility here and planes are landed relying only on eyes. Snow makes it more dangerous in winter.

4. Madeira Airport, Portugal

Madeira Airport is built in the middle of the sea. Strong winds blow here, which makes landing difficult. Many accidents have happened here in the past. Now the runway has been extended, yet special training is given to the pilots.

5. Toncotin Airport, Honduras

Toncotin Airport of Honduras is in a mountainous area. Here the plane has to take a sharp turn before landing. 152 people died in a major accident in 2008. Even today it is considered very dangerous. Landing at these airports is no less than a challenge for the pilots. This is the reason why they are called the most dangerous airports in the world.
