T20 World Cup 2026 IND vs PAK: T20 World Cup The dispute regarding the India-Pakistan match now seems to be slowly getting resolved. Pakistan is now preparing to back out on the indications it had given of boycotting the match against India. Bangladesh’s appeal, Sri Lankan President’s conversation and the role of the International Cricket Council (ICC) are being considered most important in this entire incident.
Boycott decision and then signs of U-turn
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had considered boycotting the T20 World Cup match against India. This match is to be played on 15 February in Colombo. However, now PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi has made it clear that the final decision on this issue will be taken in the next 24 hours. Naqvi said that PCB is waiting for some important answers from ICC and Bangladesh Cricket Board, only after which any official announcement will be made.
Bangladesh’s appeal became the turning point
Bangladesh played the most important role in this entire matter. Bangladesh had to pull out of the tournament after refusing to play in India citing security reasons. In such a situation, Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam appealed to Pakistan to withdraw the boycott of India-Pak match. He believed that such a step would not be in the interest of cricket.
After this appeal of Bangladesh, Pakistan’s stance softened. Not only this, Aminul Islam has also thanked Pakistan for supporting Bangladesh. He talked about “cricket brotherhood” between the two countries.
Entry of the President of Sri Lanka
The matter did not stop here. According to media reports, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had spoken to Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on phone. He had put forward the point of reducing tension regarding India-Pak match and withdrawing the decision of boycott. It is being told that Prime Minister Sharif has assured that Pakistan team will play against India, although official confirmation is yet to be given on this.
What did ICC clarify?
ICC adopted a balanced stance on this entire controversy. The organization made it clear that despite refusing to play in India, there will be no ban on Bangladesh. They will not be given any financial, sporting or administrative punishment. ICC also said that its approach is based on finding solutions rather than giving punishment. Not only this, ICC has also assured Bangladesh to organize a major tournament between 2028 and 2031. It is clear that ICC does not want to give further importance to this matter.
PCB denied talk of pressure
PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi denied that Pakistan was under any ICC warning or pressure. He said that PCB is not afraid of threats and it firmly expresses its views in every decision. According to Naqvi, he will inform the Prime Minister about the entire incident and the final decision will be taken only after talking to all the parties.
Debate again on India-Pakistan cricket
This controversy has once again fueled the debate on India-Pakistan bilateral cricket. However, it is clear that bilateral series do not come under the purview of ICC and it is not easy to reach a consensus on this. Suggestions like triangular series have also been rejected for now.
