Before the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), the Karnataka government has given good news to Royal Challengers Bangalore and their fans. The government has lifted the ban on the franchise’s home ground M Chinnaswamy Stadium, meaning RCB will now play its home games on this ground. Let us tell you that last year, the next day (June 4) of becoming the champion, RCB had celebrated the victory on this very ground, in which 11 people lost their lives in a stampede.

Last year, after the stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium, it came to light that crowd management was not done at all, even though fans were invited to come to the venue through social media. There was a huge crowd outside the stadium and a stampede broke out, in which many people lost their lives. For this reason, organizing big matches here was banned. The hosting of Women’s World Cup matches was also taken away from here, which was shifted to Navi Mumbai.

Ban on M Chinnaswamy Stadium lifted

On 12 February, the Karnataka government lifted the ban on matches in the stadium. Now RCB will be able to play its home matches at this venue, but the government has imposed some conditions. Karnataka government minister Ramalinga Reddy said, “The cabinet has accepted some conditions, including the rule that only 35 thousand people will remain in the stadium. The decision has been taken on this basis.”

Karnataka State Cricket Association President Venkatesh Prasad had said during the elections that he wanted IPL and international cricket matches to return to Bengaluru, for this he also held several meetings with the government and RCB management.

Earlier, RCB management was looking for another venue for its home ground, they had looked at DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai for this. Apart from this, he had also shortlisted Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium located in Raipur.
